JESSICA JOHNSTON
Hello, welcome to my website!
Having a Dog Training Business has been a lifelong dream of mine because I am so very passionate about the relationship between pets and their humans.
I’ve worked with dogs across all variances of breed since 2005. I participated and even competed in canine athletics in California, Nevada and Arizona.
I relocated from San Diego to Yuma in 2020 and am very much hoping to share my knowledge and expertise with families in this region.
I have four dogs of my own; a Belgian Malinois, Dutch Shepherd, Border Collie and a Newfoundland.
In 2015 I received my Certification as an Animal Behaviorist from Animal Behavior College. This gave me the tools to be successful in the ever-changing world of dog training.
In 2016 I received my Veterinary Assistant Certification. This training gave me further knowledge and understanding of a pet’s mind and body.
The key benefit of a client working with a Professional Trainer is knowing that your trainer not only received the education, has been tested and has demonstrated that they are prepared to provide you with all the tools to be the best canine parent you can be. I will work with you to alleviate the frustration that comes with training your pet toward better, sought-after behaviors.
I believe in the human-animal bond and that every dog, like every person, has a purpose. I love to work with all people and dogs, but especially those who have dogs that struggle to live in a human world, which can cause a rift in that bond. As a result of our work together, we will create teamwork and build a thriving relationship through fun and effective training.
My goal, and I hope yours too, is to achieve obedience reliability for the everyday dog owner in the real world.
SERVICES
PRIVATE LESSONS
With my 1 hour private lesson option, you will be working hand-in-hand with a behaviorist in your corner. We will cover a variety of behaviors that are 100% tailored to your pets needs. I offer a 1 hour lesson or 5 hour lesson package, depending on your goals and the needs of your pet. You’ll be able to pick a day and time that works best for your schedule. Then you’ll have the option to do our lesson or lessons together in the comfort of your home or a local park. I’m all about working at you and your pets speed, so it’s a lesson by lesson style. Working towards your future goals with your pet, we will work to make your pet the best they can be.
IN-BOARD TRAINING PROGRAM
From your home to mine, your pet will be treated as my own. It’s a great opportunity for your pet to experience a consistent training program and learn what’s expected of them per their age, with a licensed professional dog trainer that’s fair, understanding, treats every dog as an individual and enjoys every unique personality and cork. My goal is “service dog material” but I can’t label it as such, it all depends on your pet; every pet is different.
This program offers you the luxury of sending your pet to a professional behaviorist, with a full training program that focuses on different behaviors for example: Your pup will learn how to gracefully walk on a leash and understand to ignore other animals and people. They will be able to sit and down stay in all different environments. Go to and stay on their bed during dinner time, when guest are over , when you go on outings in public, ect. They will be able to come when called in all different types of situations. Your pet will wait at doors until you invite them out. Also how to not jump up or mouth us when they are excited. Regular exercise is extremely important, so they will learn how to burn off some energy on a treadmill.
At the end of the program, I offer “go home lessons”. To be sure, you and your family will be fully successful and enjoy the years to come with Your Best Dog Yet. There are some perks that come with my In-Board program, a Free Birthday Bath for life, 50% off Beginner Group Classes, 15% off private lessons, discounted prices for grooming and boarding.

SETTING THE GOAL (STEP 2)
Novice 6 week group course. After completing the “FOUNDATIONS” course it’s always a great idea to continue training. We didn’t stop after elementary school, why should they? In the “SETTING THE GOAL” course we will finalize those foundation behaviors and add in new and very useful behaviors for every day life.

GOING ON VACATION?
For pets that are grater than 25lbs, I highly recommend the larger kennel option and for pets that are less than 25lbs the smaller kennel will work great. This is a home environment, where they smell coffee in the morning and are able to hear the normal hustle and bustle of daily life. I believe that truly helps relieve stress and anxiety while away from their family. Also our homes A/C is set to 74 all day and night to keep everyone calm and cool.
The routine for all the pups that stay with us is simple; all kiddos are offered the food you provide twice a day. They will be let out to go potty up to six times a day. Also depending on the weather, supervised private play time in the yard is a must. Each pet is separated for their own safety in their individual kennels (unless we discuss other kennel arrangements for siblings) and have access to fresh water. At the end of the stay, they get to go home with a fresh bath. As a thank you, for choosing Your Best Dog Yet LLC for all your pet’s needs.
